On May 13, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary alerted its campus community, board of trustees and other stakeholders of alleged online sexual misconduct by a student.
Andrew Shiira, who was supposed to graduate May 15, had resigned from his part-time staff position prior to the allegations by law enforcement but “was dismissed from the institution upon notice of the charges,” according to a statement by NOBTS president Jamie Dew.
“We are shocked and grieved to receive this news and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement in this matter,” Dew said in the statement. “Currently, we have no evidence of any physical harm or sexual harassment pertaining to our campus population by Mr. Shiira.”
Shiira was being held on child pornography charges, according to Baptist Press.
