First Baptist Church Keller, Texas, will host a livestreamed panel discussion May 4, featuring candidates for president of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Three candidates will participate: Tom Ascol, Bart Barber and Robin Hadaway. All three have announced plans to be nominated for SBC president during the Convention’s annual meeting in Anaheim, California, June 14–15.
The May 4 panel discussion will be open to the public and is scheduled for 12 p.m. (Central) with doors opening at 11:30 a.m., Baptist Press reported Thursday (April 21). Joe Woodell of FBC Keller and associate pastor Tony Richmond will lead the event.
Pastor Keith Sanders told Baptist Press he expects the candidates to “demonstrate how to converse, agree and disagree in Christian love with civility. … Southern Baptists should be a light to the world first with the gospel, but also in how we relate to each other in public discussion.”
Ascol is president of Founders Ministries and pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, Florida. Barber is pastor of First Baptist Church Farmersville, Texas. Hadaway is a former International Mission Board missionary and a senior missions professor for Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
