Pastors are reportedly ministering to grieving families in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, as the community mourns the loss of eight people who were gunned down Tuesday (Feb. 10), according to the Associated Press. The tragedy, which involved a local high school and nearby home, is being called one of the worst mass shootings in Canada’s history.
The gunman — an 18-year-old biological male who identified as transgender — reportedly killed five students and a teacher at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and his mother and stepbrother at a house in British Columbia before taking his own life, according to news reports. The shooter was identified by authorities as 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar.

Rootselaar reportedly was a former student at the school and had prior mental health-related run-ins with authorities. He began identifying as female six years ago, according to news reports. The investigation into the shooting continues.
