Proposed budget to include EC legal fees; McCarty reinstated as parliamentarian

Facing difficult financial challenges related to legal fees and calls for more transparency, the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee voted to allocate $3 million for EC legal fees off the top of the proposed $190 million 2025–26 Cooperative Program budget. The recommendation made during the EC’s Feb. 17–18 meeting in Nashville will go before messengers at the SBC Annual Meeting in Dallas in June. The EC also adopted a new Business and Financial Plan.

Other actions included revising personnel policies and confirming locations for future SBC meetings, shifting the 2028 gathering to St. Louis due to Olympic trials in Indianapolis.

McCarty returns

The EC also approved Barry McCarty to serve again as chief parliamentarian for the SBC Annual Meeting in Dallas, June 10–11.

Al Gage, who will serve as assistant parliamentarian, served as chief parliamentarian last year in New Orleans.
