SBC 2022: June 15 AM Recap

Highlights from the third session of the 2022 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting June 15:

  • A motion to abolish the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission was overwhelmingly defeated by messengers.
  • Outgoing SBC President Ed Litton — along with Tony Evans, Fred Luter and several others —  announced the creation of the Unity Project to further grassroots racial reconciliation efforts within Southern Baptist churches.
  • Along with hearing from the six seminary presidents, close to half of the total of 8,132 messengers who registered for the 2022 SBC Annual Meeting continued to vote during the Wednesday morning sessions.
  • California’s Victor Chayasirisobhon is the new first vice president of the convention, by only 26 votes over Mississippi’s Brad Eubank.
  • We are still waiting to hear the results of the second vice president’s race after a runoff ballot was needed.
