SBC 2023: June 13 Morning Recap

The 15 motions introduced within the first hour of the opening gavel of the 2023 SBC Annual Meeting in New Orleans may be an indication of how serious the current 11,980 messengers are taking this year’s business sessions.

Topics addressed include beefing up financial accountability for the SBC entities and Executive Committee, adjusting policies and procedures for entity trustees and requesting messengers pull declined resolutions back out to the floor for a vote.

The content of the motions is much more complete and in proper order than years past. Many include the specific bylaw connected to the point of the motion, and it’s obvious more messengers researched and prepared ahead of time.

A second opportunity to introduce motions will take place at 4:30 central time this afternoon, June 13.

Also this morning, 79 (*correction from the 29 reported in the video) international missionaries were commissioned for service and prayed over following reports from the International Mission Board and North American Mission Board.

This afternoon will be a packed session with more business items including the appeals from churches recently disaffiliated from the SBC.
