SBCAL was started in 1960 as a way to train directors of missions and to provide networking opportunities for leaders of associations. Today, there are 780 members of SBCAL.

When 293 delegates gathered in 1845 in Augusta, Georgia, for the inaugural meeting of the convention, their first resolution expressed the desire to “organize a convention for the propagation of the gospel.”
“It represents a priority of ministry particularly to our elderly members, but it also serves all the church family,” said John Waters, lead pastor of First Baptist Church Statesboro, Georgia.
Chris Reynolds, the GBMB’s lead strategist for Pastor Wellness, said, “It was inspiring to witness a multigenerational gathering of women share stories of faith and encouragement.”
