Shrink the Divide draws multiracial audience, features ongoing efforts

The fourth annual Shrink the Divide event took place Oct. 3 in Mobile, Alabama.

The gathering is sponsored by The Pledge Group, which encompasses Mobile-area pastors who are seeking “to unify the body of Christ and our communities across ethnic and denominational lines, realizing that racism is a heart/sin problem and only the gospel will bring about such unity.”

Keynote speakers were Richie Riles, men’s basketball coach at the University of South Alabama, and SBC President Ed Litton, pastor of Redemption Church in nearby Saraland.

Along with hosting the annual gathering, The Pledge Group sponsors small groups and a network of speakers for the community.

“We are singularly focused on Christian unity and racial reconciliation,” the group’s core values reads. “As a group, we do not advance any other issues or undertake any political action.”
