Prosecutors reportedly charged 26 defendants in an international gambling conspiracy that allegedly rigged NCAA Division I men’s basketball and Chinese Basketball Association games from 2022 to 2025, multiple news outlets reported Thursday (Jan. 15). The investigation is ongoing.

Those accused of fixing games allegedly bribed players as much as $30,000 per game to intentionally underperform, according to reports. This allowed bettors to win big money — millions — from manipulated point spreads. The scheme, according news outlets, allegedly involved more than 39 players from 17 NCAA teams across multiple conferences. Defendants reportedly face charges including bribery, conspiracy and wire fraud. All of this carries potential sentences of up to 20 years in prison.
