A Sunday school class at Kuttawa First Baptist Church in Kentucky was quick to mobilize when it heard of a need at Sunrise Children’s Services. But when the Sunrise need was met in abundance, the work of that class was not in vain — instead two agencies were recipients of the class ministry.
Chris Knoth, a member of Kuttawa FBC, learned while talking with a Sunrise representative that it needed Christmas stockings. She told her Sunday school class of that need and suggested they work to make the stockings. The ladies involved in the work are members of Vickie Gray’s Sunday school class.
‘Anywhere they are needed’
“The ladies jumped right on it,” she said. “We had a sewing party and had 124 done right off the bat. The ladies just loved doing it. We really wanted the (Sunrise) kids to have them, but we are happy for them to go anywhere they are needed.” Eventually more than 200 stockings were finished.
There were seven women involved in the project — five church members and two with connections to the church. The stockings were completed in two workdays. “The ladies brought sewing machines in — some were ironing, some sewing and some cutting out patterns,” said pastor Kyle Franklin.
He was excited for the mission passion of the class and planned on personally delivering the stockings to Sunrise. “Our church has a heart for missions and our people really love Sunrise,” Franklin said.
But after the stockings were made, word came from Sunrise that the need had already been met — to the extent that Sunrise now has enough stockings to last for as many as three years.
