Supreme Court: California schools blocked from ban on notifying parents of child’s gender confusion

In a 6–3 decision, the Supreme Court has temporarily blocked enforcement of a California policy restricting schools from notifying parents if a child identifies as transgender. The March 2 ruling sides with parents challenging the law over concerns it violates their religious beliefs.

In an unsigned order, the court reportedly contended parents were likely to succeed on claims the policy violated their free exercise rights and parental protections under the 14th Amendment, according to numerous news outlets. This latest ruling reinstates a lower-court injunction while the legal battle continues.
