Search-and-rescue efforts continue in the hill country of Texas where 68 people are dead and more are missing after a catastrophic flash flood July 4.
The flooding follows tornadoes in 2021 and 2024, but despite the setbacks, “the community is doing well,” said Mike Jicka, pastor of Dawson Springs First Baptist Church.
Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers have kept busy during the past week as a relentless wave of storms continues to pound the region with deadly floods and tornadoes from Texas to Ohio.
At least seven people are dead after tornados ripped through parts of the South and Midwest this week (April 2–4), and more life-threatening severe weather is expected through the weekend.
“It has been a catastrophic afternoon,” said Randy Davis, Tennessee Baptist Mission Board executive director. “Our hearts are broken for the people in Cocke, Washington, Unicoi, Greene and other counties that may be affected.”
