Authorities continue to release more details following a horrific attack Sunday (Sept. 28) on a Michigan Mormon church. At least four people were tragically killed and eight wounded after a gunman rammed his pickup into a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building in Grand Blanc Township, before opening fire and setting the building on fire, the Associated Press and multiple news outlets reported.

Police identified the suspect as Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, a former Marine from nearby Burton, who was fatally shot by officers after a brief chase. FBI officials described the attack as “targeted violence” and continue to investigate a possible motive. Flames consumed the church for hours, and officials noted more victims could be found in the debris.
