Concord Baptist Church Mohawk, Tennessee, recently celebrated its 200th anniversary with 110 in attendance.
The church was organized in 1823 with 32 members, and its years of ministry were highlighted during the June 11 morning service, followed by “dinner on the grounds.”
Participants came dressed in pioneer era clothing to commemorate the bicentennial, and church members shared photo boards highlighting the ministry of the church in the life of each family.
Concord Baptist has ordained nine men, one an African-American in 1868, to the gospel ministry. It has been served by 42 pastors, with the honor of the longest service going to current pastor Larry Jones who was called in 1992.
Faithful missions support
The congregation also has supported missionaries and missions causes throughout its history, including the annual Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, Annie Armstrong Easter Offering and Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions, which are heavily promoted and supported.
For more than two centuries Concord has dedicated itself to carrying the love and faithfulness of God into the community and beyond, Jones noted.
“[The anniversary celebration was] incredible and was a great example of the grace of God over those years,” he said. “God’s people are very faithful to our church and that has enabled Concord to serve this community for 200 years.”
Jones added the church is looking forward to many more years of ministry.
“The fact that Concord is still here today means that God still has a word for our community.”
