The Islamic State killed some 20 Nigerian Christians — shown on video — for vengeance, and a Muslim mob elsewhere stoned to death a Christian college student.
Unknown are the time and location of the IS video, aired on a news outlet linked to the Islamic State (also called ISIS, ISIL or Daesh), according to the relief group Barnabas Fund.
A militant on the video claimed the killings avenged the death of Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi, an IS leader slain in Syria in a February air raid by U.S. forces.
Woman stoned
Elsewhere in Nigeria, Deborah Samuel was clubbed and stoned to death May 12 for making “derogatory comments” about Muhammad (Islam’s prophet) on the WhatsApp platform, Barnabas Fund reported.
A Muslim mob killed her at Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto state and set her body on fire.
After Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunci were arrested for her murder, protesters stormed the palace of the Sultan of Sokoto to demand the suspects’ release.
Nigeria is No. 7 on Open Doors’ 2022 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
