Wearing green hats and warm smiles, a large group of Tennessee Baptist volunteers recently served lunch to more than 1,000 construction workers at BlueOval City — the under-construction Ford plant — in Stanton.
The luncheon — hosted by more than a dozen Baptist churches and supported by the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board and the Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief feeding unit — was held to celebrate the completion of 1,000,000 union hours on the site.
All told, more than 100 Baptist volunteers performed various jobs, including cooking and serving food, during the event.
Big opportunity
The workers were able to pick up free Bibles and received information about how they could connect with local churches.
“I’m overwhelmed by the greatness of this opportunity,” said Ben Cowell, pastor of Brownsville Baptist Church, just moments before lunch was served during the April 14 event.
“Just stop and look around: God is using us to expand the Kingdom. How awesome is that?”
