The board of Truett McConnell University decided Sept. 25 to “part ways” with president Emir Caner.
They made the decision after hearing the findings of an independent investigation by Richard Hyde of Phoenix Research LLC. They announced the move in a statement yesterday (Sept. 26). Caner had been on administrative leave since June 6 following serious allegations of sexual misconduct and institutional mishandling. A May 2025 report had alleged abuse by former senior vice president Brad Reynolds and raised questions about how university leadership responded.
Caner had been the university’s president since 2008.
Acting president John O. Yarbrough has been named interim president. The board will appoint a committee to search for a new president.
