Today (Sept. 4) marked two months since massive flash floods in Kerr County, Texas, killed 119 people and left a swath of devastation.
As people in the area continue to try to put their lives back together, Marc Ira Hooks — a correspondent for The Baptist Paper — is back on site sharing stories of hope.
“What I want to share with you this week is stories of faith and hope and love, stories of how God has been at work through the storm and after the storm,” Hooks said in a video posted on The Baptist Paper’s Facebook page.
‘This is not going to defeat them’
As part of Ground Level, which features “Real people, real places — no studio required,” Hooks has been interviewing first responders, pastors and others who have stories of how the floods and the aftermath have challenged and encouraged their faith. He’s interviewed people like “Cowboy Dave,” who drove from Ohio to help the hurting, and Jill Varnell, who is helping Texans on Mission rebuild a home in the Kerrville area this week.
‘Ready to restore and rebuild’
“They’re ready to restore and rebuild and try again,” Varnell said of homeowners there. “This is not going to defeat them.”
Keep following along on Facebook over the next several days as Hooks continues to tell stories from Kerr County.
“We’re doing that because we want to share with you that God is always at work,” he said.
