Messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting in Anaheim will learn the status of more of the proposed 37 motions today (June 15). They also will have the opportunity to vote on the motion proposed by Joshua Scruggs of North Carolina which calls for abolishing the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission.
Twenty-three motions were proposed during the Tuesday morning session and 14 Tuesday afternoon. The second set of motions included more related to transparency and accountability and adapting convention-related governing documents. One motion also calls for Guidepost Solutions to turn over all files and information related to the recent sexual abuse investigation.
Steven Bates, chairman of the Committee on Order of Business, has already announced 13 motions have been referred to the SBC Executive Committee and two to their respective seminaries. Bates will share about the remaining motions at 11:45 a.m. PDT, and the ERLC vote will take place at 11:35 a.m.
