While some have speculated that a new president of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee could be announced at the EC’s upcoming meeting (Feb. 20–21) in Nashville, search committee chairman Adron Robinson confirmed it “looks like that’s not going to happen.”
Through a statement released by Baptist Press on Friday (Feb. 3), the committee acknowledged the search is going to take “a bit longer.” Robinson requested prayer for the remaining candidates and search team as the process continues forward. The presidential search committee was named in February of 2022, following Ronnie Floyd’s decision to step down a few months earlier.
“We had hoped to have a candidate locked in,” said Robinson, pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Country Club Hills, Illinois. “It looks like that’s not going to happen, but in spite of that, the process is going well.”
‘Strong finalist group’
“I am proud of the committee and the work they have done, how we have come together as a team, working together as brothers and sisters in Christ,” Robinson said.
“We have a strong finalist group,” he noted, “and we’re just trying to pray our way through that group to be sure that we have the best person for the job — God’s person for the job.”
Robinson added, “We know God is able to give us clarity about this decision, and our trust is in Him.”
