The TRBA executive board voted on Dec. 10, 2013, to call Williams as director of missions and he began serving on Jan. 27, 2014. Previously he had served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Flower Mound, Texas, for 19 years. During his 46 years of ministry he has also served as a mission pastor, Baptist state paper editor, associational church services director, minister of education, minister of preschool, and minister of youth and single adults.

Williams and his wife, Donna Kay, are both retiring together from their full-time ministry positions. She has been with Marketplace Chaplains since their move to Liberty, serving as a chaplain, coach and trainer for that national organization. Before that she served First Baptist of Flower Mound as their minister of worship for 24 years.

In his resignation letter, Williams points to the Pastor Essentials Class as “the greatest joy of my tenure.” He began the program during his second year with TRBA and has graduated 11 classes from the year-long course that meets for three hours on Monday evenings. By the end of this year, the Pastor Essentials Class will have trained 83 different men, awarded 133 certificates (because several of the men have attended the class multiple times), and produced 15 pastors. Today, one-fourth of all TRBA pastors have been equipped through this class.

The Williamses plan to relocate to North Texas and will continue to actively serve in ministry as the Lord provides opportunity. Williams said he will be giving more focus to his call as a writer and editor, in addition to being available for preaching, coaching, teaching and interim pastorates.
