“When people abide in Christ, others’ lives are transformed,” said Sandy Wisdom-Martin, executive director of national Woman’s Missionary Union.
That’s what the first day of WMU’s two-day Missions Adventure and Celebration was all about — celebrating the ways that’s happening through WMU around the world.
Participants started the day by joining the morning worship service at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, then moved to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary for lunch, activities and their annual meeting.
The meeting, which followed the theme “Hope in Christ,” featured a number of testimonies of how hope is shared when people abide in Christ.
During the meeting, Connie Dixon, a member of First Baptist Church Elida, New Mexico, was reelected to serve another year as president, and Shirley McDonald of Greens Creek Baptist Church in Dublin, Texas, was reelected recording secretary.
Also during the meeting:
- David George, president of the WMU Foundation, introduced Peggy Darby, the Foundation’s president-elect. George will retire at the end of June.
- Participants heard the testimonies of five Acteens panelists — Leslie Almonte of Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana de Passaic in Passaic, New Jersey; Destiny MacCarthy of Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama; Alyssa McMillon of Dudley Shoals Baptist Church in Granite Falls, North Carolina; Isavela Montanez Ojeda of Freeman Heights Baptist Church in Garland, Texas; and Hannah Rickman of Retama Park Baptist Church in Kingsville, Texas.
On the second day of the Missions Adventure and Celebration, participants had the opportunity to take part in a cruise on the Creole Queen paddle-wheeler, which included a retirement reception for George and the presentation of the 2023 Dellanna West O’Brien Award for Women’s Leadership Development through WMU.
