A woman who accepted Christ as her Savior in May was killed by her father for leaving Islam.
Hawa Amoti, 28, of Nansana in Wakiso District in Uganda had been having dreams about Jesus Christ and asked a Christian neighbor for information on May 29, Morning Star News reported. Amoti accepted Christ as Savior and went to church that day with the neighbor.
She returned home to discover that her family had heard she was seen worshipping Jesus at church. Amoti’s father, Haji Shariifu Agaba, stabbed her in the eyes.
Neighbors rescued her and took her to a hospital, where she died, Morning Star reported.
Sentenced
On May 26, a high court in Mukono District sentenced Alias Mohammed Wamala for murdering at least two Christians in 2017. Wamala, a Muslim with ties to extremist groups, was sentenced to life in prison, the maximum penalty.
Approximately 12% of Uganda’s population is Muslim. The constitution and laws allow for freedom of religion, including converting from one faith to another, but Christian churches increasingly have received threats of violence, and some converts have been attacked, killed or excommunicated by Muslim family members, World Atlas reported.
