SEBTS celebrates groundbreaking, commissioning, Akins’ 20-year milestone

Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary recently hosted its biannual meetings, where the board of trustees and Southeastern Society (SES) gathered. Amidst updates and celebrations — including the Akins’ 20-year anniversary and the groundbreaking for a new dining hall extension — the focus remained on Southeastern’s mission-oriented ethos and theological drive.

President Danny Akin highlighted the institution’s strong ties with the International Mission Board, with more than 200 students currently serving in missions, supported by scholarships totaling over $600,000 annually.

Reports and banquet

The institution’s enrollment continues to rise, with a 15% increase in accepted applications.

A banquet honoring the Akins underscored their impactful leadership, marked by humility and commitment to the Great Commission.

Trustees approved budget increases, faculty appointments, curriculum changes and new funds to support student aid and facility maintenance.

The event concluded with a commissioning chapel, where more than 80 students and their families were prayed over as they prepare for missions. Southeastern expressed gratitude for the support of its trustees and SES members, as well as for the dedicated service of the Akins in advancing the institution’s mission.
