Tibet hit by deadly 7.1 magnitude earthquake

Amid freezing temperatures, rescue workers continue to dig through debris in Tibet after a deadly 7.1 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday (Jan. 7) killed at least 120 people, injured many others and destroyed homes. The earthquake hit the region in western China near the border of Nepal — reportedly about 50 miles north of Mount Everest.

Associated Press reported at least 188 people were injured and more than 1,000 homes were damaged by the earthquake. As of now, Baptist relief workers are unable to respond in China, noted Coy Webb, crisis response director for Send Relief. Send Relief is a ministry of the International Mission Board and the North American Mission Board.
