OBITUARIES

  • Vernell Daniels, who led at least 12 Mississippi churches over 64 years of ministry, died June 20.
  • Joe Weideman Armour Jr., a minister who served churches including First Baptist Church Tupelo and FBC Clinton for nearly 40 years, died July 4. He was 72.
  • Charles Hurshell Jones, who served as pastor, director of missions, associational staff, pastoral staff and prison ministry missionary, died July 6. He was 88.
  • Robert Preston Cooper Jr., longtime pastor, died July 14. He was 74.

Celebrations

  • Farmhaven Church, Canton, Metro Association, celebrated its 100th anniversary May 4.
  • Ann Woodhouse of First Church Corinth, Alcorn Association, recently celebrated 25 years as pianist.
  • Sunrise Church, Petal, Pine Belt Association, celebrates 125 years Aug. 3 at 10 a.m.

Staff changes

  • Jeff Ingram is the new pastor of Gunter Road Baptist Church, Florence, Rankin County Association.
  • Doug Broome is the new pastor of East Philadelphia Baptist Church, Philadelphia, Neshoba Association.
  • Tim Lampley is now partner ministries associate at The Baptist Children’s Village. 
  • Celeste Williams is the new case manager at our Reedy Acres Campus for The Baptist Children’s Village.
  • Braelyn Weaver is the new women’s consultant for Mississippi Baptist Convention Board.
  • Kay Bennett is the new Christian Women’s Job Corps/Christian Men’s Job Corps consultant for Mississippi Woman’s Missionary Union.
  • Tracey Byrd, ministry assistant for Jackson County Association, recently retired.
