While perhaps easier said than done, the Louisiana Children’s Trust Fund launched the #PutThePhoneDown campaign to combat excessive cellphone use among children.
The state’s governor, Jeff Landry, declared August as #PutThePhoneDown Month. He urged families, schools and communities to prioritize face-to-face connections over screen distractions.
‘Reset the balance’
Research reportedly links overuse of phones to anxiety, depression, sleep disruption, poor academic performance and weaker social skills. Educators also report rising classroom distractions and reduced engagement. “It’s time to reset the balance,” said Trust Fund Executive Director Ursula Anderson.
As August comes to a close, the campaign sought to promote healthier technology habits, strengthen family bonds and improve children’s mental, social and emotional well-being.
