Albert Mohler introduced his constitutional amendment regarding women serving on church staffs as a formal motion during the first business session of the SBC Annual Meeting this morning (June 9), ensuring it will be a focus of discussion in later business sessions.
Mohler announced May 18 his intention to propose an amendment to the SBC Constitution to change the language of the Constitution to say that a church in friendly cooperation with the Southern Baptist Convention “does not act to affirm, appoint or endorse a woman serving in the office or function of a pastor/elder/overseer, specifically preaching to the assembled congregation.”
Mohler is longtime president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
