Andy Stanley, founding pastor of Atlanta-area North Point Community Church, announced Sunday (Oct. 18) plans to step down from leadership roles in 2027. After 31 years of ministry, Stanley, 68, said he will leave his role as senior pastor of North Point Ministries Jan. 1 and as lead pastor of North Point Community Church in June.
Stanley noted he still plans to remain an elder and preach periodically. Reasons for his departure, he noted, included maintaining the health of the ministry and a desire to spend more time with his grandchildren.
Successor
Meanwhile, the board of elders unanimously nominated executive director Joel Thomas as his successor, pending a congregational vote. Results of the vote are expected Nov. 1.
