Around 2,000 people recently gathered at 30 locations across Mississippi for “At the Cross,” a statewide prayer event led by Rick Blythe of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board.
Inspired by Terry Long’s book, “100 Days at the Cross,” the Nov. 3 initiative aimed to spark spiritual revival through unified prayer.
The event, planned over two years with input from four associational mission strategists (AMS), focused on prayer for churches, communities and the nation — while steering clear of political messaging. Blythe introduced the Concentric Circles of Prayer booklet, emphasizing that revival stems from the church, not politics.
Recognizing ‘power of prayer’
Participation ranged from small groups to large gatherings, such as 500 attendees in Lafayette and Marshall Counties and 400 in Rankin County. Creative efforts included erecting a 50-foot cross in Jasper County.
Blythe encouraged ongoing collective prayer, stating, “God’s people must continually recognize the power of prayer.” Free resources are available at mbcb.org.
