Bangladesh Air Force jet crashes into school; more than 30 killed

UPDATE 7/23/25: This story has been updated since it was first published July 21. Students began protesting near the site of the crash on Tuesday, seeking answers and compensation for the families of those impacted, the Associated Press reported.

A Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI jet crashed Monday (July 21) into Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara neighborhood, killing at least 30 people, including the pilot, and injuring over 170 others, the Associated Press reported.

The aircraft suffered mechanical failure shortly after takeoff, according to multiple media reports. The pilot reportedly attempted to divert the plane but crashed into a two-story school building.

Most victims were students, and many suffered severe burns. Interim leader Muhammad Yunus declared Tuesday a national day of mourning. He urged full emergency response, and an investigation is underway, according to multiple media reports.
