People in northern Venezuela are digging out from the devastation that has left at least 164 people dead and 971 injured following two powerful earthquakes that struck Wednesday (June 24).
According to the latest reports, the first earthquake struck with a magnitude 7.2 foreshock. It was then followed seconds later by a 7.5-magnitude quake, which is reportedly among the strongest to hit the Venezuela in more than a century. Rescue crews continue searching for survivors in Caracas, where buildings collapsed. The death toll is expected to rise.
More rescue teams from other countries and humanitarian aid are reportedly being deployed as the damage is assessed.
