Firefighters are battling a four-alarm fire at the historic sanctuary of First Baptist Church Dallas tonight (July 19).
The huge fire caused the 134-year-old sanctuary to partially collapse a little after 7:30 p.m, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Around 8 p.m., Pastor Robert Jeffress posted on X (formerly Twitter) that to their knowledge, no one was hurt or injured, and they thanked God for His protection.
“He is sovereign even in the most difficult times,” he wrote, then quoted Romans 8:28.
‘Quick action, courage’
Jeffress later told the Associated Press: “We are grateful that no one was injured … and are thankful for the first responders who helped contain the fire to our historic sanctuary. We just had 2,000 children and volunteers on campus for Vacation Bible School earlier in the day.”
He added, “We thank the Dallas Fire Department and Dallas Police Department for their quick action, courage and ongoing aid.”
