Guidepost Solutions has begun drafting its final report, the Sexual Abuse Task Force shared in a March 11 update, “including its independent recommendations, in preparation for the publication of the full report and recommendations prior to the SBC Convention in Anaheim in June 2022.”
The report is part of Guidepost’s independent investigation into accusations that the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee mishandled sexual abuse claims.
During the last month, the update noted, Guidepost has “continued its independent investigation and focused on document review and witness interviews.
“To that end, Guidepost has reviewed and processed substantial amounts of information (more than five terabytes of data). Further, Guidepost has contacted and interviewed dozens of current and former Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee staff and trustees.”
The report noted Guidepost’s progress so far:
— Traveled to Nashville in late February and interviewed current and former Credentials Committee members, with 13 of 14 current and former CC member interviews completed by March 8. The final CC member interview is scheduled for March 24.
— Completed a total of 133 current and former trustee interviews, with an additional 12 scheduled and 22 for whom Guidepost is in the process of scheduling or they are awaiting return calls. As previously noted, Guidepost has reached out to all current and former trustees within the time frame of the investigation. All attempts, responses, and non-responses will be set forth in detail in the final report, including a list of those current and former SBC EC trustees and leadership who declined to be interviewed.
— Completed a total of 36 current and former SBC EC staff interviews both in person and virtually.
— Met with Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission leadership and commenced review of archived ERLC documents.
— Continued to meet with survivors who have affirmatively reached out to the Guidepost investigative team.
— Received the remaining documents from the Guenther, Jordan & Price law firm. The firm has been responsive to Guidepost’s document request, according to the SATF statement.
— Reviewed presidential papers and ERLC documents on file at the Southern Baptist Historical Library and Archives.
Additional updates will be posted to the Sexual Abuse Task Force website.
