Staff changes

  • Bruce Childress is the minister to students of Calvary Baptist Church, West Point, Golden Triangle Baptist Association.

Events

  • A youth rally (Jasper County Baptist Association) is scheduled Sept. 14, 6 p.m., Smith Park, Bay Springs; speakers: Derek Fretwell and Braden Gray; band: Free Reign. Bring a lawn chair. 
  • Easthaven Baptist Church, Lincoln County Baptist Association, is hosting a
    senior adult rally Sept. 19, 5:30 p.m.; speaker: Joe McKeever.
  • The Mississippi Singing Churchwomen will be in concert Sept. 15, 6 p.m., Truitt Memorial Baptist Church, Pearl.
  • The Mississippi Singing Churchmen will perform three times in September: Sept. 16, 6 p.m., Union Baptist Church, Picayune; Sept. 17, noon, Seminary Baptist Church; and Sept. 17, 6 p.m., Salem Heights Baptist Church, Laurel.
  • The Call, an event for men and their wives who are considering a call to pastoral ministry, is Sept. 19, Mississippi State University Baptist Student Union. Dinner is at 5 p.m.; worship: 5:45 with two breakouts and a panel discussion. Speaker: Cory Barnes. To register, call 662-328-6802.
  • Synchrony, which is scheduled Sept. 19, 9 a.m.–2 p.m., First Baptist Church Summit, will assist church leaders in developing an integrated vision of preschool, children’s, youth and college ministries working collaboratively. The event is for age-group ministers and other discipleship/education ministers. The deadline to register is Sept. 13: Call 601-292-3284 or email tpresson@mbcb.org.
  • The Mississippi Baptist Young Musicians Honor Choir will perform Sept. 21, 6:30 p.m., First Baptist Church Florence. It is an auditioned choir for students in grades 4–6. 
  • Perry County Baptist Association churches are hosting a block party with food, games and music Sept. 28, 4–6 p.m., Richton town square. 
  • Renewing the Church Summit, hosted by the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board department of church planting and revitalization, is a one-day event. Whether you are seeking to restore your church or eager to learn more about church replanting, this event will be a valuable time with Mark Clifton, JimBo Stewart and Andy Addis from the North American Mission Board replant team. The summit is free and is from 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. (lunch provided). There are three different options: Sept. 30, Harrisburg Baptist Church, Tupelo; Oct. 1, Temple Baptist Church, Hattiesburg; and Oct. 2, Pinelake Church, Brandon. Visit mbcb.org/events.

  • Damascus Baptist Church, Hazlehurst, is hosting its 200th anniversary Sept. 24, 10:30 a.m.; speaker: Stan Weatherford, Copiah Baptist Association director; music: Jennifer Templeton; potluck dinner on the grounds.
  • Spring Bank Baptist Church, Silas, Choctaw Baptist Association, is celebrating its homecoming Sept. 29; singing, 10 a.m.; singers: Reginal and Tina Hare, Savannah Jackson and Katie Abston; worship service, 11 a.m.; speaker: Randy Abston; lunch and fellowship to follow.
