Devastating flooding and landslides in Nepal recently claimed the lives of more than 200 people, while others remain missing or left to recover from the damage.
The latest figures showed that 228 died and 158 were injured from damage caused by the heavy rain that fell near the end of Nepal’s monsoon season, which usually ends by mid-September. At least 25 people reportedly remained missing, as of Oct. 2. More than 4,000 people had been rescued, according to reports from Nepal’s military. The flooding damaged 16 hydroelectric power plants, and 18 other construction projects were also damaged, the Associated Press reported.
Send Relief — the compassion arm of the International Mission Board and North American Mission Board — continues to monitor the situation, but noted there are no immediate plans at this time to respond, reported Coy Webb, crisis response director for Send Relief. Meanwhile, Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers in the Southeast continue to help with Helene response efforts as Hurricane Milton prepares to make landfall in Florida this week.
