Pastors and members of 33 New Mexico churches from across the state participated in the virtual 2022 Capitol Prayer Gathering.
The Cooperative Program-funded event took place on Facebook Live and Zoom. Some churches registered to use the prayer gathering as their midweek prayer service.
The gathering was originally planned as a hybrid event that would bring back a traditional in-person dinner near the New Mexico capitol in Santa Fe. The hybrid event would have included virtual remote sites in a format hosted live from the dinner in Santa Fe. Last minute COVID-19 concerns and restrictions on legislators during this year’s legislative session prompted organizers to cancel the dinner and continue with the online format.
The goal of the Feb. 2 meeting was to pray aloud for each of the 125 state leaders and legislators by name. Then, 14 prayer leaders led groups to pray for the state leaders during 47 minutes of prayer.
Two hosts guided the meeting from a studio location in Albuquerque. Behind the scenes, 12 technical volunteers operated equipment and coordinated the 21 locations of program personalities in 11 cities.
The Baptist Convention of New Mexico’s Christian Life Committee hosted the event with assistance from the convention’s Information Services Team staff.
