As America celebrates its 250th birthday this weekend, Indian Fork Baptist Church will have a unique opportunity on Sunday (July 5) to host the dedication of a memorial of three Revolutionary War soldiers from that community.
The “Patriot Grave Marking Service” will be conducted by the Kentucky Sons of the American Revolution.

There are three Revolutionary War soldiers — John Bohannon, James Christie and Meshack Pearson — whose names are inscribed on the memorial stone. The three soldiers fought in the Virginia Militia.
The cemetery is next to the church building. Indian Fork is 220 years old.
Joe Ernspiker, pastor of Indian Fork Baptist Church, said the dedication was scheduled to follow the church’s Sunday morning worship service.
Plans for the day
The color guard will arrive at 11 a.m. to set up. Plans call for the church’s Sunday morning worship service to conclude by 11:45, then the memorial dedication will begin at noon and last about 45 minutes. Afterwards there will be dinner on the grounds.
“Everyone is welcome,” Ernspiker said. In addition to presentation of the colors, several people will speak about the nation and its Christian-based founding as well as the Revolutionary War.
“We’re happy to host it,” Ernspiker added. “Being a Christian means praying for our nation, which was founded on Christian principles. We want as many people that can to come and enjoy the fellowship. We hope the community sees things that are happening and will be drawn here and hear the gospel.”
