Among the biggest of today’s news, messengers have voted not to adopt the Law Amendment, which would have added to the SBC Constitution: “Affirms, appoints, or employs only men as any kind of pastor or elder as qualified by Scripture.”
The Resolutions Committee has released a list of “preliminary” drafts of this year’s proposed resolutions that will go before messengers during the Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting in Indianapolis.
In February 2024, the Alabama Supreme Court issued a ruling in favor of parents who had utilized in vitro fertilization (IVF) and had their embryos dropped and destroyed at the fertility clinic.
Southern Baptists such as Andrew T. Walker, a professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, have called on the SBC to adopt an official resolution addressing IVF at its next convention later this year.
“This ruling has sent shock waves throughout the country, including the pro-life movement which has historically been torn over the ethics of IVF,’ says Jason Thacker.
