As the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration approaches, the Museum of the Bible is launching exhibits, lectures and a theater production as part of its “The Bible & America 250” initiative, writes Ryan Foley of The Christian Post.
A variety of scholars and historians on June 7 will kick off the effort by spotlighting the Bible’s influence on America’s founding through a series of lectures that are free to the public. Two of the exhibits opening July 3 will reportedly take a closer look at Scripture’s role during the American Revolution. The display will also include newly displayed artifacts from the museum’s collection. The museum will host “A General’s Prayer,” a live production about George Washington, featuring actor James Denton. Museumgoers can catch this production June 12 through July 19.
Scripture and war
In a separate video interview with The Christian Post, Museum of the Bible Curator Anthony Schmidt spoke about one of the exhibits, “Sacred Liberty.” He shared how it will specifically focus on the Bible’s role and presence during the American Revolution and its impact on the founding of the country.
Schmidt noted during the interview that the Bible was “used by people on both sides of the American Revolution” to defend their decisions and “to rally support” behind the fight. See video interview here.
