Based on the real executions of drug traffickers in Indonesia in 2015, “The Firing Squad” is set to release on Aug. 2.
Director and writer Tim Chey, who was in Singapore during the unfolding of the dramatic and highly contested executions, said he knew he had to make a film about the men facing death.
“They all went out singing ‘Amazing Grace’ as they faced their execution,” Chey told NBC News. “I said, ‘I have to make this movie.’”
Impacting lives
The movie, the first release by Epoch Studios, follows three death row inmates who accept and follow Jesus before facing a firing squad. According the Chey, early viewers of the movie have expressed interest in having a similar relationship with Jesus as the prisoners in the film do.
The inmates are played by Kevin Sorbo, who is no stranger to the faith-based film market; Cuba Gooding Jr.; and newcomer James Barrington.
Epoch Studios is a branch of Epoch Times and is co-producing the movie, which will release in theaters nationwide. To find out if “The Firing Squad” is coming to a theater near you, visit firingsquadfilm.com/theaters.
