A Christian woman was beaten, starved and left to die in a wild animal park after putting her faith in Jesus Christ.
When Sharifa Muhando’s Muslim husband learned she had left Islam, he beat her and withheld food for a week. Morning Star News reports that Muhando said she had put her faith in Jesus Christ in July 2021 and kept it from her husband and other relatives.
On May 10, 2023, Muhando’s husband, Musa Bwambale, found her asleep and holding her Bible, she said. He beat and starved her, then left her May 17 to be eaten by animals in Queen Elizabeth National Park near Kasese town, where the couple lived.
The pastor of the church she secretly attended found her. He and others took her to a hospital for treatment.
The pastor said he was informed that the woman’s husband later perished in a traffic accident.
Approximately 12% of Uganda’s population is Muslim. Uganda’s constitution and laws allow for freedom of religion, including converting from one faith to another. However, Christian churches have increasingly received threats of violence, and some Christian converts have been attacked, killed or excommunicated by Muslim family members, the World Atlas reports.
