Amid the ongoing battle over funding for Planned Parenthood, a federal judge has partially blocked a provision in a recently passed federal budget bill focused on stripping Planned Parenthood of Medicaid funding for one year, according to media reports.
U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani ruled Monday (July 21) that clinics not performing abortions or receiving under $800,000 in Medicaid annually may continue receiving funds while litigation moves forward.

This latest development come after Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit, arguing the law violates constitutional rights and threatens public health. Critics, including the ERLC’s Miles Mullin, condemned the decision, saying it prolongs taxpayer support for abortion-related services.
“Planned Parenthood’s claims that losing taxpayer money to help subsidize the promotion and practice of abortion violates their free speech does not hold water,” said Mullin, Baptist Press reported.
“Even if a particular Planned Parenthood clinic does not perform abortion, it promotes and recommends abortion, often directing vulnerable women across state lines to obtain one,” he noted. “Beyond the blatant disregard for Congress’s right to establish spending and keep our tax dollars from supporting abortion inherent in this ruling, it also gives no consideration to the over 400,000 children whose speech is forever silenced each year in Planned Parenthood clinics across the nation.”
Before the case is settled, it could reach the Supreme Court.
