A federal judge has canceled the upcoming jury trial in former Southern Baptist Convention President Johnny Hunt’s defamation lawsuit against the SBC and others.
The trial, initially scheduled for June 17, was called off Monday (May 12) by Judge William L. Campbell Jr., citing pending motions to reconsider his previous rulings.

Last month, Campbell dismissed all but one count in Hunt’s $100 million suit, which included claims of reputational harm and emotional distress stemming from a 2022 Guidepost Solutions report on sexual abuse within the SBC.
The report included an incident involving Hunt and a younger pastor’s wife. Campbell ruled the report addressed matters of public concern and found no evidence of negligence or emotional injury.
The remaining claim centers on a social media post by then-SBC President Bart Barber.
A new trial date will be scheduled by separate order.
