Where were you on 9/11? Philip Hurley remembers

Philip Hurley says he remembers thinking that nothing was secure.

He was on a highway between two television stations he owned in Montana, and the moment was “a very distinct memory.”

“It just so happened … that right about that time we lost power at one of our TV stations, and of course our first thought was that it had something to do with what we had just heard — 9/11 and New York,” Hurley said.

He didn’t know if his TV stations were secure. Even more importantly, he wasn’t sure if his wife back in Dallas felt safe.

“From there, it seems like it just got worse and worse,” he said.

Hear Philip share in his own words

A lot changed — Hurley said he lost a little faith in the safety of the United States. “We had to become more vigilant, not just abroad but in our own country, our own city and our own home because we weren’t as secure as we thought we were.”

But while that faith may have eroded, his faith in God was strengthened during that time 25 years ago. When everything else was shaken, God was his rock.

“Without a doubt it strengthened my faith,” said Hurley, who now lives in Plano, Texas.

He said regardless of what happens to the United States at any point in history, “we must have the faith that He is the supreme being, and that’s where our faith needs to rest.”
