2021 SBC Annual Meeting gets underway today

The first day of the 2021 SBC Annual Meeting gets underway this morning at 8 a.m.
The schedule is packed with business, including the first of the resolutions and officer elections.

Resolutions

Resolutions to be presented to messengers include:
  • Resolution 1: Baptist unity and maintaining our public witness
  • Resolution 2: On the sufficiency of Scripture for race and racial reconciliation. Asks messengers to affirm the sufficiency of Scripture on race and racial reconciliation, condemn racism, to reject any theory or worldview that finds the ultimate identity of human beings in ethnicity or in any other group dynamic and to reaffirm the SBC’s 1995 Resolution On Racial Reconciliation
  • Resolution 3: On taxpayer complicity in abortion and the Hyde Amendment
  • Resolution 4: On the Equality Act. Asks messengers to oppose the Equality Act and urge Congress to reject the legislation as a threat to religious liberty and to engage discussion of the Equality Act and its stance on LGBTQ issues with respect and Christlike love while holding firmly to our biblical convictions on these issues
  • Resolution 5: On abuse and pastoral qualifications. Asks messengers to affirm that any person who has committed sexual abuse is permanently disqualified from holding the office of pastor and recommends affiliated churches apply that standard to all positions of church leadership
  • Resolution 6: On sole membership
  • Resolution 7: On Christian citizenship
  • Resolution 8: On the Uyghur genocide
  • Resolution 9: On the coronavirus pandemic
  • Resolution 10: Resolution of appreciation for the city of Nashville
