Mississippi BSU minister Wayne Vandiver retires after 40 years

Wayne Vandiver retired from Baptist Student Union ministry after 40 years of service. To this day, Vandiver still has students from throughout all his years calling him because, as they note, "he's still our BSU director."

Mississippi BSU minister Wayne Vandiver retires after 40 years

Wayne Vandiver retired after 40 years of service, having dedicated his career to the Baptist Student Union at Itawamba Community College and Northeast Community College.

Ed Earnest, BSU associate director at Northeast, highlighted Vandiver’s profound impact, recalling their long-standing friendship and mentorship. Vandiver’s tenure saw significant achievements, which included leading successful summer mission fundraisers and organizing ministry teams for local churches.

Dedication

A retirement celebration on June 1 honored Vandiver’s contributions, with attendance from former and current BSU directors and representatives from the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board.

Vandiver’s dedication to student spiritual growth and community involvement was widely praised. Reflecting on his journey, Vandiver expressed gratitude for the community’s support and God’s guidance.

As he looks forward to retirement, Vandiver plans to stay active, including substitute teaching. His legacy continues to inspire, with many still viewing him as their BSU director.
